Hi everyone!
I hope you've all enjoyed a fun and relaxing break. Here is a look into our last 2 weeks of learning (amid the many snow days!) and what's coming in the next few weeks.
Reading: We will spend ~1 more week in our Wampanoag reading groups. We have learned a lot about the Wampanoag people and how to use the CER response strategy. Students have made excellent progress in making a strong claim, finding evidence from the text, and supporting their thinking with logical reasoning. We will also continue practicing our test-taking skills with both multiple choice and open response questions.
Math: Students did a wonderful job during our multiplication and division unit, and were able to demonstrate their learning on the assessment! Writing our own word problems was a fun way to practice the strategies we learned for multiplying and dividing. It also helped us to identify the key words that tell us what operation to use for different word problems. Our next unit is GEOMETRY, so get ready to ask us a lot of questions about lines, rays, and shapes at home!
Writing: We are going to focus on our informational writing in the next few weeks. We learned about writing a paragraph, and even taught mini-lessons to one another to help us understand what a paragraph is, what a well-written paragraph includes, and how to write one. We also asked questions about our informational topics that our readers will want to have answered. Then, we did research by finding library books or internet resources to help us answer these questions.
Even with the snow days and excitement about vacation, students are doing a wonderful job of staying on task and having a positive attitude. To help us continue being bucket-fillers if anyone has a large paint-mixing or other bigger bucket feel free to send it in, as our bucket from the fall is too easy for us at this point! We will be discussing goals and ways to exceed expectations in our "Spring semester" of third grade.
Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow, and I look forward to a fun week!
Best,
Mrs. K
PS: My college roommate Amanda surprised me with a visit to our classroom on Friday. She flew in from Atlanta for Ryan's 1st birthday! She was very impressed with how welcoming and focused our classroom was, and enjoyed crafting mini-iPods with Lola and Catherine.
