Monday: We are continuing to work on our transitions from math centers. Our math centers last approximately 15 minutes, before we switch to a new activity. Our transitions aren't going as smoothly as they could, so we had a class meeting to discuss ways to improve. Please remind your children that when transitioning, we should be fluid, quiet, and not disrupting others. Collectively, we came up with an acronym for QUIET, which Chiara will be explaining in her post. Ms. Frusciante is also reviewing for our upcoming PARCC testing. We have been reviewing test taking tips and strategies, as well as practicing refresher problems so we can do as well as possible!
Tuesday: We started our morning with a class meeting about respect, and appropriate behavior for the classroom. Room 48 did a great job of expressing both their questions and concerns with fellow friends and teachers. Lets all work hard in respecting ourselves, each other, and our classroom space. Special spotlights on Chiara and Leo. Chiara challenged herself and solved a fraction equation, even though we haven't covered the unit yet. Leo has been spontaneously coming up with quotes, so much so that we are creating our very own quote wall. We are continuing our essay writing by analyzing the "Maddi's Fridge," by Lois Brandt.
Wednesday: In math we had our initial introduction to PEMDAS. We are practicing this important concept, as they will need it for the majority of their math lives! April is National Poetry Month, and during our library session, we read " Homework Poem", written by Jack Prelutsky. This poem was a HUGE HIT among our friends, Jack even felt compelled to say, " My soul is lifted"!!! For our writing unit, we continued on our essay writing, comparing and contrasting main characters and their characteristics. For reading, Ms. Frusciante read, "Music over Manhattan," which turned out to be a personal favorite of Thiago's. He provided us with tons of background details and fun facts!
Thursday: We were treated to a special unit on Helen Keller. Before the amazing performance, we learned how to appropriately communicate with someone who is both deaf and blind. Chiara will further expand on the details of this amazing powerhouse. It's my hope that as a class, we show gratitude for what we have, and continue to be respectful and being inclusive of all.
Friday: YAY FRIDAY the best of the regular weak and it's almost April VACATION! Today like all days was normal at school but there was outdoor recess in the morning and indoor recess in the afternoon. For lunch was meatball parm and it was a good lunch. At lunch recess people used computers. The rest of the day was good and a funny OM story. (Chiara and Daniel)
