Hi everyone!
Reminder that tomorrow is SPORTS DAY! Students may wear their favorite sports attire to school. (Please note: BC Eagles and Falcons gear are welcome in this classroom!) Here is a look into our week:
Reading/Social Studies - Students are working in guided reading groups reading books about the Wampanoag people. Each chapter has a "big" question that students answer using the CER method. Students are doing an excellent job of thinking critically about the text and using the text features to enhance their understanding. In our groups, we are also targeting different reading skills, like making inferences, reading with fluency, or identifying the author's purpose.
Writing - Our class is really enjoying our informational writing workshop! This week, we organized our writing into headings by planning our Table on Contents. We investigated a sample Table of Contents and observed different elements, like the engaging titles, an order that makes sense, and chapters that are equally important. Then, we started writing key details about each of our headings. For every heading, or chapter, we need at least 3 key details that relate to the heading, and "answer" the question that the heading poses. We look forward to continuing our work next week!
Math - This week, we focused on division. We learned a strategy for solving division problems, which includes reading the problem carefully, drawing a diagram, and writing a number model. We also learned about solving multiplication and division word problems. We sorted words into categories based on whether they signify multiplication or division. Then, we reviewed multiplication strategies (x1, x0, x10) that help us solve problems quickly. We discussed the importance of Fact Power and learned about multiplication and division fact families. We will continue to review multiplication and division next week.
On Tuesday, we attended an All School Meeting, led by the 5th grade. We enjoyed the sing-along and hearing what 5th graders are currently learning.
Have a great weekend!
