Hello students and families! We had a busy short week.
In math, we finished up The Big Dinner. Students found the total cost for all of the groceries. Then, they calculated the cooking time for the 24 pound turkey, knowing that the recipe calls for 15 minutes of cooking for every 1 pound of turkey. Students did a fantastic job of applying the strategies they have learned, and were able to present their thinking during the Math Congress.
In reading, we continued to work in our groups with different mystery books. We reviewed the elements of a mystery book (suspense, alibi, red herrings) and continued to fill in our Super Sleuth notebooks. We also started Reader's Response journals, where we respond to our independent reading books. Our first prompt was: Good readers use the I-PICK method to find good fit books. Explain how your book is a good fit for you using the following words-Purpose, Interest, Comprehend, Know the words.
We had a blast during writing on Monday! We shared our published folktales with other third graders. As a class, we worked VERY hard on our planning, drafting, editing, and rewriting. Mrs. K thanked us for our hard work by converting our stories into scripts! Our scripts our in our Google docs folders, and our wonderful stories are coming home today!
We also had time to talk about the people we are thankful for. We focused on some of the "Unsung Heroes" of the Franklin School, like the nurse, custodians, specials teachers, and teaching assistants. We also thought about friends and family members who make our lives easier, better, and/or more enjoyable. Ms. J and I are very thankful that we have such a kind, responsible, and cooperative class - they make our jobs easier, our days better, and keep us laughing! The school year is flying by (which is a good sign!), and I so appreciate that every student comes to school with a smile and is ready to learn and work hard. So, THANK YOU :)
Enjoy the holiday!
