WCAS Presentation
There were three men playing Percussion instruments at our Creative Arts and Sciences presentation. They played the drums and other instruments that you hit, such as the talking drum. The talking drum has a drum and rope on the side that you can squeeze to make different sounds. It was awesome!

Reading
In reading, we started the Mystery unit! We read mystery books like Club Sandwich and The Monkey Maze. As we read, we try to figure out the mystery in our own Super Sleuth notebooks. Also, we all got cards with mystery words on them. We had to guess their definition and then did a matching activity. One of the words was "hunch," which means a guess or feeling not based on facts. Mysteries are very fun, because you can find out the mystery and sometimes do a fun activity like a maze on the notebook.

Word Work
We had a test, well, sort of a test! We are working on digraphs, trigraphs, and welded sounds. We also learned that the /a/ sound changes when it follows w- or qu-. Students did a great job on the check-in and word work homework this week!
Writing
We adapted folktales. We are doing good so far. Students chose the folktale they wanted to adapt, and started writing into a draft packet. Then, they will write a final draft of the new version.
Evacuation Drill
We took a long walk to Burr School. Some students did not like it, but others liked getting the exercise. The drill helped us to know what to do in a real emergency.
Math
We started division! We learned that division means dividing a large number into equal groups. We practiced with division story problems and tried different strategies. Some strategies are: drawing a picture, skip counting, using multiplication facts we know, and drawing circles for the groups. We are excited for more division next week!
Specials
In music, we played our recorders. In gym we are in an anti-smoking unit. We recently got the gym floor done and it looks great! In art we made crafts out of clay.
