Hello everyone! I met just a few parents so far, so I'd like to introduce myself to the rest. My name is Vicki Frusciante and I'll be Mrs. Kalich's leave replacement for the next couple of months. I'm originally from New York and I've been an educator for 10 years now. My husband and I just moved back from a 4-year stay in France, where I was teaching at an international school. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and all the kids. I think we had a very successful first week together!
This week we continued writing our Information pieces. We worked on editing and revising, adding in more detail and key features, as well as conferencing with new checklists. We will continue working towards our goal for the March 10th Publishing Party! In reading, we were introduced to "Reading Rockets," which is our new readers response journal. Readers will soon bring this home to share, but in the meantime we are learning about what "expert readers do" by writing down our thoughts, opinions, predictions, and connections. We have also read some wonderful stories in class and have discussed character traits, character inferencing, and diving deeper into our characters' lives in order to analyze them and connect with them.
In Math, we began a new unit on Geometry. The kids learned about lines and angles by doing a lot of partner work and next week we will continue on with shapes (parallelograms, quadrilaterals, and polygons).
We will also discuss a new unit of Geography, focusing on Massachusetts and all its attributes.
A flyer was also sent home today for Read Across America Spirit Week, so the kids can have fun dressing up each day. ;-) We will also be sending home a Scholastic packet to choose books from if you'd like to order. The Scholastic One-Time Class Activation Code is: LBBMD.
Please feel free to email me anytime and in the meantime, I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
Kind regards,
Vicki Frusciante
