Hello everyone!
It's great to be back! Our class was sad to see Mrs. F go, and we are grateful for all of her help. We are working on getting back into the swing of things for our last month of third grade! Here is a look at our week:
Math/Science: We took an assessment and showed what we know about fractions and multiplication. Then, we started a S'Math Unit (Science + Math) with the question What is our world made of? Students thought like scientists and discussed that things or objects are made of different kinds of stuff, or materials. In groups, we sorted some common objects into categories, like wood, plastic, handmade, metal, and other. Then we talked about our reasoning for sorting the objects into these categories. We will be using our eyes, fingers, and ears to investigate during this fun, hands-on unit!
Reading/Social Studies/Science: We did a little more work on our Pilgrim Journals, and enjoyed meeting some of our Pilgrim namesakes at Plimoth Plantation! We also read more of Night of the Spadefoot Toads. We continued to observe our own toads, and moved all of the toadlets out of the water tank! They are all growing and doing well in their new environment.
Plimoth Plantation: We had a fantastic field trip on Wednesday to Plimoth Plantation. Students enjoyed visiting the Wampanoag homesite and learning about toys, games, tools, and food that were common for the Wampanoag people of that time. They also travelled back to the 17th century and met characters like Captain Myles Standish. Our class did a wonderful job of asking relevant, respectful questions, and even learned to greet the villagers in the ways of that time. Thanks again to our chaperones for attending!
Looking ahead: We are going to work on fairy tales, poetry, S'Math, and toad observations in our last stretch before summer! It is going to be a busy but fun month!
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend,
Mrs. Kalich
