Hello students and families!
We had a very busy week! As the topics we are learning get more challenging (like division!) we had a class meeting about following expectations, making transitions quick and quiet, and being engaged with our learning. We hope to put some ideas into practice next week to ensure every member of our classroom community is doing their best work, and having fun!
In math, we finished helping Muffles with his truffle shop. We had our last math congress and worked on multiplication strings with some BIG problems, like 12x15. Luckily, we now know strategies for how to solve problems we don't know by using smaller problems we do know (10x15 and 2x15 can help us solve 12x15). Then, we moved onto more practice with equal groups and arrays. Today, we learned about how to divide a number into equal groups. We learned the steps for solving a division problem and then practiced. We will continue to work on division next week!
Our focus in reading was crafting a CER response: Claim-Evidence-Reasoning. We finished the book Tapenum's Day, and then put important events from the book in sequential order. Then, we answered a question about the text using the CER approach. We open our response with a CLAIM that restates the question. Then, we provide evidence from the text. For every piece of evidence, we provide reasoning that explains why the evidence supports our claim. We also started a new read aloud called Bunnicula.
We also worked on...
-Social Studies: Map legends, cardinal directions, and reading a map
-Writing: Kicked off our Informational Text unit by brainstorming topics we are experts about
-Word Work: More work on the schwa sound and the word ending -et sounds like /-it/
Have a wonderful weekend!
