Hi everyone! It was a busy week in room 31, including a snow day and an unexpected absence for Mrs. K due to Ryan being sick AGAIN! Here is a look into our exciting week:
Math: Students were enjoying our geometry unit SO much that we reviewed, studied, and took the unit assessment! The class did a great job remembering terms about lines, angles, polygons, and even how to solve multiplication/division word problems. We then had guided M.A.T.H centers to help us work on specific skills in small groups.
Reading: Our focus this week was to compare/contrast 2 nonfiction articles using the Line of But (yes, really) graphic organizer. We color-coded our responses to check for opening/closing sentences, indenting our paragraphs, transition words, and 2+ similarities and differences. Then, we went back to reading 2 fiction texts from the Frog and Toad series. We discussed what type of graphic organizer would help us write about the two passages, and decided on the CER approach. We will continue our mini-open response unit next week before breaking into new guided reading groups.
Writing: Informational writing is still going well! This week, we "zoomed in" (credit to Karma for that term) on how to HOOK readers with strong introductions, or leads. We read examples of questions, statements (that are mysterious/shocking/humorous), onomatopoeia, dialogue, action, any other styles. This helped us to revise some of our introduction chapters, or the first sentence of our chapters.
Again, thank you to those who have attended or signed up for a student-led conference, they are going very well! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
