Hello Fantastic Families,
We've had a lot of activity in Room 48! This week has been particularly busy for us and I'm excited to fill you in.
Monday: Ms. Frusciante formed new math centers, and we played games to cement our learning of mixed numbers. For our read aloud, we read the book, " Black Holes", and our class was CAPTIVATED! Ms. Foster lead our practice for both singing and dancing portions of our Multicultural Day segment. By the end of practice, there were many rosy cheeks, we danced HARD!
Tuesday: Multicultural Day! I hope our fantastic families enjoyed multicultural day, as much as we did!
Wednesday: Wednesday was a huge day for writing. We are wrapping up our opinion writing unit, and we are transitioning into essays. In addition to already being awesome, we are now becoming essayists! We read a short story titled, " The Paperbag Princess," by Robert Munsch, as an introduction to our new unit. Our in-class assignment was to find evidence from the book to support our consensus that Elizabeth was very clever throughout the book. We also learned the difference between a reason and an example (reasons come from your head, evidence comes from the book), which is very crucial for future essays!
Thursday: First, and foremost WELCOME BACK DOMINIC! Your friends and I missed you! We are so glad to have your smiling face and amazing attitude back with us. In P.E, Ms. Foster introduced our jump rope unit, which Dominic dominated! He is our reigning jump rope champion. I have a feeling Daniel is going to try to get the crown!
Room 48 also continued with our essay unit. Here are 4 rules we have established when writing an essay:
- State your claim
- Find 3 reasons to back up your claim
- " Prove It" with examples
- End it with a conclusion
- Special spotlight on Thiago and Leo for being MAJOR contributors for this unit!
- Please see the attachment below for our full essay writing process.
"One person said one of the people with red eyes looked weird and I'm not pointing out any names but good thing it wasn't anyone from Mrs.Kalich's class. Now we go to the activities in the art room theres braille type writers and in the music room theres a blind grab bag and in the library there was a blind trust walk." Daniel Woodward
Friday: "There are some birthdays coming up and they are Giulia and Dominic's birthday. Also adding, we are starting to prepare for P.A.R.C.C, learning strategies to prepare. There will be a memo getting sent home on Monday. Yesterday we finished our The paper bag princess essay. Jasmine
Ms.Jones' Muffin of the Week: "This person has been wanting to be Muffin of the Week and this week he worked very hard. This week's Muffin is...drumroll please... Brenden! Brenden has been working VERY hard with mixed numbers, improper fractions and reading. He also was a great math partner. BRENDEN YOU ARE MUFFIN OF THE WEEK!!!" written by Chiara
"Brenden, I know how hard you have worked. You are a star in both the classroom and on the field. Keeping putting all you have in both, and you will be VERY successful. I'm rooting for you!" Ms. Jones is awesome!! - John.
