I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! ;-)
Monday is my last day as we welcome back Mrs. Kalich to Room 48, so I wanted to send along a quick update regarding the past week. I also wanted to take this opportunity to let you all know how much of a pleasure it was getting to know many of you and working with all your kids. I wish you many wonderful things and a great rest of the school year!
Reading/Social Studies/Writing Integration: The reading groups completed their book walks and talks about Colonial Times. We did some comparing and contrasting, especially when it came to schools and teachers and pilgrim boys and girls. The kids also enjoyed some on the Scholastic website reading about Plymouth. It's student-friendly with videos, pictures, voice-overs and more. You'll find this link under Home Links below. They are getting all ready for the exciting field trip on the 25th as it's just around the corner!
They also enjoyed a Readers Theatre with their groups as well. It was fun to visit each group and hear some get into character. With some giggling and laughs, they enjoyed the play together.
We will also be completing journal writing entries on Monday and Tuesday.
Great Read Alouds: As usual, each week brings about new literature that we enjoy together. This week we read, The Boy Who Loved Words by Roni Schotter ("Upon my word! How lucky I am!). We have also moved to an intriguing chapter book called, Night of the Spadefoot Toads by Bill Harley (how fitting!).
Math: Woo hoo! Our last PARCC was on Friday! The kids were real super stars! Way to go Munchkins! We are all proud of you. During the week we have also continued Math Centers and I have been working with kids on Basic Algebra and Double Digit Multiplication. Please remember to continue practicing those Math Facts at home!
Science News: We have moved 4 froglets into the new tank! Wow, they are really going full force ahead! Emily and I spent much time during lunch observing them and making sure their new tank was safe and comfortable. They were hopping around on algae and even climbing the tank glass (we called them Spider Frogs) and hopefully eating those flightless fruit flies throughout the weekend!

Drumlin Farms came to visit us on Thursday! We spent the whole morning in the other classes as our classroom turned into a mini "animal observation center." There was a lovely goose who came to visit. She was rescued by the farm as she had an injured wing and will never fly again. We observed two types of frogs and examined water bugs under a neat water microscope. If you haven't already visited, I would certainly encourage a little trip over there as the kids really enjoyed it!

Our Diversity Project became more of a Mirror collage. The kids enjoyed making one to express who they are as we always speak about recognizing and loving our differences. They will certainly take them home and in the meantime it will become great wallpaper!
And lastly, a special note to The Munchkins: I wanted to thank each of you for these past three months. We have shared, learned, laughed, cried, smiled, discovered, and created, together. You are all so smart, special, and unique and you'll always remain in my heart. Thank you so very much! And of course thank you Mrs. G and Ms. Jones! You are both super stars! ;-)
Love,
Ms. Frusciante
