Here is a look at our last full week before winter break!
Science: This week, we learned all about the water cycle. After building up our background knowledge, we worked in groups to tell the story of one drop of water. Some of our drops started out as snowflakes, others were in puddles, and they ended up going through the water cycle (evaporation, condensation, precipitation) and changing forms/locations completely! Students did a wonderful job with this project.

Writing: Our small moment stories are finally published! Thank you for attending our Author's Celebration (photos in gallery below). It was fun to share our hard work with you! We have now been working on free writing, third grade reflections, and practicing cursive. We are also preparing for our Informational writing in January, by thinking of topics we are experts about and listing main ideas about those topics.
Social Studies: We LOVED seeing one another's timeline projects (one photo above) and presenting the important dates/pictures from our lives! We also finished our research and Native American tribe posters this week! You can see us working hard on the posters in the gallery below. Students did a fantastic job presenting their posters to the class, and teaching us about the similarities and differences between the tribes.
Math: We focused on perimeter (distance around a shape) and area (square units that cover surface of a shape) this week. Students practiced as a whole group, independently, and with partners. We also designed Dream Houses keeping in mind the total area of each room in our homes.
Reading: We continued to work on our informational text skills by reading informational passages about Native Americans. We also listened to Tapenum's Day, a book about the daily life of a Native American boy in the past. Then, we started reading in groups about The Wampanoag Year. We are focusing on finding the main idea and details for how the Wampanoag lived during each season of the year.
Enjoy the weekend,
Mrs. Kalich
