Hello Room 31 students and families!
We had a busy week, and are looking forward to some fun events before winter break. Here is a look into our learning and some upcoming special events:
Math
In math, we started our unit on addition and subtraction. We learned two new games (available on PearsonRealize.com) called Capture 5 and Close to 100. Students have shown great math thinking skills and good-fit strategies when trying to find the sum or difference of two digit numbers. We will continue to work with place value and addition/subtraction next week.
Reading
We learned about research and note-taking for our first long-term reading project. Partners were assigned a Native American tribe to read about, take notes on, and create a poster that teaches about the tribe. We learned about the main idea versus details and how to put the main idea into our own words. We are also continuing to enjoy Matilda, and students are making wonderful connections to the story.
Writing
Students are doing an excellent job with their personal narratives. This week, we learned about story starters, show-don't tell, adding vivid details, and using transition words. We enjoyed listening to students' stories in the Author's Chair. Next week, we will continue drafting and working on dialogue.
Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, December 19th: Buddies!
Wednesday, December 20th: Snowflake Activity
Thursday, December 21st: Movie (3rd-5th grade in cafeteria), presentation from class at dismissal
Friday, December 22nd: Pajama Day and All School Sing Along
*We also will present a project to some special teachers on Wednesday!
Enjoy your weekend,
Ms. K
