Hello Room 31 Families!
We had a GREAT first week in third grade! We spent a lot of time getting to know our classmates, teacher, classroom, and expectations for third grade.
We kicked off the week with two scavenger hunts: Find Someone Who... and a classroom hunt. Find Someone Who helped us get to know our new classmates, and the scavenger hunt showed us around our brand new classroom. {Check out the photos of Find Someone Who... in the gallery below!}
We worked on our own name tags and schedule cards to add some pizzazz to our lovely classroom (which is still a work in progress!). We also made an Ice Cream Scoop Graph of our class birthdays {Photos below!}. Then, we had our first Math Talk about the graph, and students made some thoughtful observations about our birthday data. We also worked on Math About Me, which showed numbers that are important in our lives (like our house #, # of siblings, or lucky #).
We also listened to two great books: Have You Filled a Bucket Today? and Enemy Pie. We discussed both stories, and the lessons that help us to be good classmates and friends. We will continue working on being a good friend next week. We also wrote our own Book Reviews of a favorite book.
We also did a lot of reviewing what is expected in different parts of Franklin, and during different parts of our day. For example, during quiet time, we have a zero voice. When presenting to the class, we use a Formal Normal volume level. We've worked hard to stay in a 3S line while in the hallway, and to remember expected behavior in the cafeteria, playground, and in our classroom.
Finally, we ended our week by sharing our wonderful artifact bags. Students shared items in their table groups, and challenged one another to make an inference about why they included a particular object. Then, many students shared one artifact with the entire class. We learned some cheers like "The Elvis," "Rollercoaster," and "Clam Clap" to cheer on our excellent presenters.
It has been so much fun getting to know each other, and we are looking forward to more fun and learning next week!
Ask your third grader:
* What are the 3S's in "3S Line"?
* What is a Mystery Walker?
* What happens in Enemy Pie?
Have a wonderful weekend!
-Mrs. K
