Hello students and families,
After our first 2 snow days and Super Bowl weekend, third graders got right back to work! Here is a look at our week:
Math: We worked on multiplication and division this week. We reviewed using the Multiplication/Division Table, and came up with other helpful strategies to help us solve problems:
- Arrays
- Diagrams
- Use a fact family (I know 3x4=12, so I know 12/4=3)
- Use facts I know (2x4 and 10x4) to solve a larger problem (12x4)
- Multiplication Rules (x0=0, x1=same number, 9's trick, count by 5's and 10's)
Reading: This week, we read Peppe the Lamplighter to kick off our Character and Community Unit. After reading, we made text-to-self connections by making a Venn Diagram. The Venn Diagram compared and contrasted Peppe's family and community to our own. We also finished our practice with "Is My Dog a Wolf?" by answering the multiple choice questions and forming an open response.
Writing: Our expert writing projects are still coming along! Many students are now typing their paragraphs, and thinking about text features that would help to teach the reader. We examined some samples of introductions and conclusions and help to get the reader interested in our topic.
We celebrated Valentine's Day and said goodbye to Jayda, who is moving to a new town, on Friday afternoon. There is a photo of the final "group hug" below!
