Hi students and families!
We had a short week, but fit in a lot of learning! Please remember that math worksheets (sent home today) and reading logs are due tomorrow!
Reading and Writing: We discussed the common elements that traditional literature like folktales usually have, like they teach a lesson, happened long ago, and have a happy ending. Then, we listed to 2 different variations of Little Red Riding Hood: Little Red Cowboy Hat and Pretty Salma. Tomorrow, we will work in groups to analyze each story and then work together as a class to determine the similarities and differences between the three tales.
We also worked on a vocabulary and reading comprehension assessment. Students did an excellent job of showing their test-taking skills, such as: checking over their work, making an educated guess, and eliminating answers that do not make sense.
Math: We demonstrated our learning for unit 1 (review, telling time, and graphs) on a math check-in this week. We also worked on Number Boxes and creating our own bar graphs and line plots. We learned new math games: Name that Number and Back 2 Back. Finally, we learned about guided M.A.T.H. centers, and practiced rotating between the four different centers: Math facts, At your desk, Teacher time, and Hands-on games.
Science: This week, we learned about deciduous and coniferous trees. We practiced identifying the two types, and learned why some trees lose their leaves while others do not. We discussed whether a palm tree is deciduous or coniferous, and will continue learning the characteristics of each type of tree.
Have a great weekend!
