Hello Everyone!
I've had the pleasure of meeting with many parents, but allow me to introduce myself formally. My name is Maya Jones, and I'm currently a senior at UMass Boston. I will be attending grad school in the fall, with a major in education. I feel so lucky to be part of the fabric of Room 48. I've really made awesome connections with the kids, and I'm excited to learn and grow with them. I wanted to add my perspective to the blog, including class content and "Ms. Jones' Muffin of the Week". (Chiara is helping me make an official certificate for the recipient).
Monday- Ms. Frusciante introduced fractions and the terminology associated with it ( numerator, denominator, digits, and equivalent fractions).
Tuesday: In music class, we learned how to draw music notes, including " ta's", and " te- te's".
Wednesday: We continued working on fractions, learning how to compare them and figure out which was greater or less than, using the appropriate symbols. Room 48 also started a multicultural dance unit, which will culminate in a Multicultural Day Dance, on March 29th. Emily was my dance partner, and she didn't miss a beat!
Thursday: Our publishing party was a HUGE success. Thanks so much to the parents who came to join us. Our group worked very hard, in order to meet our deadline. Sometimes the road was tough, but with hard work and perseverance, ALL of the kids did an amazing job. Mrs. Kalich also surprised our class! To quote Thiago, it was " like a dream". We were all so happy to see her, and hear all about beautiful baby Ryan.
Friday: In art, we started plastering our individual projects. Ms. Frusciante and started an " My Opinion Writing" Unit. Based off the ideas that are being brainstormed about, this will be a VERY interesting unit for readers.
Ms. Jones' Muffin of the Week: Mr. John Kostov is my Muffin of the Week!!!!! Since my very first day of school, John has been one of the most welcoming and warm students. He puts a smile on my face every day, with his sense of humor, and his easy going attitude. When I asked him about the significance of his red and white bracelet, he informed me about the Bulgarian tradition of wearing his "Martenitsa" to welcome the upcoming spring season. When he arrived to school the next day, he put one on my wrist so I can celebrate as well. Thank you John, for your hard work, and your amazing attitude. You are my very first muffin of the week!
