Hi everyone!
Thanks to those who signed up and came to our Student-Led conferences! Students really enjoyed putting together their work and thinking of a "script" and agenda to help lead us through their learning. I also appreciate your flexibility since morning times are difficult for me!
Reading: After wrapping up our Wampanoag books and CER response practice, we have started a mini-unit that will help us compare and contrast 2 different texts. Our new skills will help us with the upcoming MCAS, and will help us grow as readers and thinkers. We read the book The Salamander Room and will be doing academic choices based on the book. We also read an article about the movie Zootopia and answered questions.
Math: Room 31 loves geometry! We are doing a great job with all of the terms, figures, and shapes. Students became teachers as we explained the qualities of different shapes (opposite lines are parallel, all right angles, etc.) and gave examples of these shapes in the real world. We have worked with triangles, quadrilaterals, and (will continue with) polygons this week. Next week, we will review and then show what we know on an assessment!
Writing: We are back into the swing of things with our informational writing. Students are turning their notes into paragraphs that teach about a specific topic. We will continue to work on our expert writing in the coming weeks.
Social Studies: We completed a fun artifact activity where we examined photos of real Wampanoag artifacts and made educated guesses about the type of object, what it was used for, and how it was made.
I look forward to our 3rd Grade All School Meeting this Thursday, and to seeing more of you at our conferences!
Have a great evening,
Mrs. K
