Dear students and families,
Thank you so much for coming in to view our timelines! Third graders did an excellent job of showing important moments from their lives in chronological order. They also did well presenting timelines to their classmates. Here is a look into more of our learning this week!
In math, we are continuing to work on representing data. We learned about bar graphs, double bar graphs, and pictographs. We are using our math talk moves to make thoughtful observations about graphs. Some students started collecting their own data, and are organizing the information in a visual way. We will continue to learn about data and graphing next week.
Our mystery guided reading groups are going wonderfully! Students enjoy keeping track of clues, suspects, and red herrings in their notebooks. We are focusing on making and revising predictions as we read, and keeping track of key details.
In writing, we made Heart Maps that display people, places, activities, and things that are important to us. The heart maps will help us to brainstorm personal narrative story ideas next week. We also learned the cursive letters u and w.
We had a lot of special events this week! Our Creative Arts and Sciences program was a presentation by author/illustrator Matt Tavares. Students were inspired by his work, and enjoyed hearing about his process for drawing and writing a story. We also welcomed Lia's mom, Tal, into our classroom to teach us a Thanksgiving Calypso song. We will be performing the song Tuesday at our Family Morning Meeting (8:45-9:00). Last, we went to the 4th Grade All School Meeting, and heard what Franklin students and teachers are thankful for.
Please let me know if your child will be absent at all next week, and enjoy the weekend!
