Hello students and families! We worked as a class on the blog this week, but check out your student's Friday Journal for more details from our week.
Academic Choice: Students finished working in groups to present their projects about COOPERATION. The poster, speech, and commercials were all well planned and taught about the importance of cooperation. We look forward to more academic choice projects this year!
Math: In math, we cut out pictures of arrays. An array is a way of showing equal rows and columns. You label an array with dimensions. For example, a 3x5 array looks like this:
* * * * *
* * * * *
* * * * *
We also made posters with a partner showing a number and ALL of the arrays that can be made with that number. Math was awesome this week!
Reading: In reading, we're working in Readers Theater groups! Reader's Theater is when you perform stories, such as The Little Red Hen, 3 Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We finished the Gates Assessment (woohoo!). We had to read passages and answer questions. In addition, we filled our stamina chart! Students are really enjoying Reader's Theater.
Computers: Ms. Busa visited and taught us about using computers. We found out the rules for using technology in school. We logged into our Google Docs and made a 3rd grade folder. Then, we shared the folder with Ms. K so she can help us with our work. Also, we practiced typing capital letters. We cannot wait to use Chromebooks during school!
Word Work: We worked on welded sounds this week. We did different types of endings, like -unk, -ank, and -ink. Last, we practiced how to do Word Work homework.
Reminders:
- Next week we start homework! Help your student to complete their reading log, word work activities, AND nightly math sheets!
-Our homework cover sheet for next week is available here, but a hard copy will also be in Take Home folders on Monday.
-Please sign up for a conference here, or e-mail me to find a new time.
