We have a guest blogger this week! Oden is writing his Friday Journal entry on our blog, with additions from Ms. K. Check out your student's journal this weekend!
Dear families,
This week in school was really challenging. How were your weeks? Are you excited for the 3 day weekend? Read more to find out about what we learned!
First, we have been doing tests. We took two math quizzes AND a vocabulary assessment. We also did a math workshop during math. Students did well. Tests are the funnest part of school!
We also learned about the core value COOPERATION and started an academic choice project to teach others about cooperation. Students chose to make a poster, perform a commercial, or write a speech about cooperation. They will present their final projects next week, and are being "graded" on how well their group cooperates! We will continue to work on showing cooperation before learning our next core value.
On Friday, this guy (Mr. Olsen) climbed a tree. He told us how scientists climb trees and showed his fishing rod, slingshot, and bow and arrow, which all help him get the rope up to high branches. He taught us how to tell the difference between Norway maples and Sugar maples. Then, he brought different living things into the classroom for us to draw and observe.
We also had our first science lesson with Ms. Merrell! We looked at salt crystals, and then looked at them using hand lenses. We described the differences when we could see the crystals up close. In social studies, we brainstormed what we know about history and learned about our learning targets for the year.
In reading, we read different versions of Little Red Riding Hood. We made a chart to show how the stories were the same and different. We also reached our goal of 20 minutes of independent reading stamina.
Last, in writing, we learned the cursive d. Students enjoyed watching a video that showed the steps for forming the lowercase d in cursive.
We hope you have a nice long weekend! See you on Tuesday.
Sincerely,
Oden and Ms. K
