Hello Room 31 Families!
We had a GREAT first week in third grade! We spent a lot of time getting to know our classmates, teachers, classroom, and expectations for third grade.
We kicked off the week with two scavenger hunts: a classroom scavenger hunt and Find Someone Who... Find Someone Who helped us get to know our new classmates, and the scavenger hunt showed us around our brand new classroom. We discussed how to take care of our selves, our classmates, and our classroom. We also learned all about the classroom jobs that help our community run smoothly, and applied for our top 3 choices.
We worked on our own name tags and schedule cards to add some pizzazz to our lovely classroom. We also worked on Math About Me, which showed numbers that are important in our lives (like our house #, # of siblings, or lucky #). Our work will be displayed for Curriculum Night!
We also listened to two great books: Swimmy and A Quiet Place. We discussed both stories, and the lessons that help us to be good classmates and friends. We will continue working on being a good friend next week. Tomorrow, we hope to discuss our favorite books and open our classroom library!
We did a lot of reviewing what is expected in different parts of Franklin, and during different parts of our day. For example, during quiet time, we have a zero voice. When presenting to the class, we use a Formal Normal volume level. We've worked hard to stay in a 3S line while in the hallway, and to remember expected behavior in the cafeteria, playground, and in our classroom. Students worked in teams to present the Franklin School Rules, and what it looks like to follow the rules in room 31. Teams did a great job of presenting their work to the class and asking for thoughtful questions and comments.
We've enjoyed Morning Meeting and Closing Circle each day. We've learned fun greetings and activities like Pop and Museum. We have also learned some affirmations like "The Spicy Jalapeno" "Rollercoaster," and "Raise the Roof" to cheer on our classmates. Finally, we will end our week by sharing our wonderful artifact bags.
It has been so much fun getting to know each other, and we are looking forward to more fun and learning next week!
Ask your third grader:
* What are the 3S's in "3S Line"?
* What is a Mystery Walker?
* What are some of the classroom jobs?
Have a wonderful weekend!
-Ms. K
